HELEN I. IMESHelen I. Imes, 87, of Mifflin, passed away at 7:17 p.m., Saturday, August 24, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. Born May 22, 1932, in Tuscarora Township, Juniata County, she was a daughter of the late James S. and Sarah M. (Reeder) Hurrell. On November 6, 1948 she married her late husband, Melvin L. Imes Sr. with whom she was blessed to share more than 60 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on May 4, 2009. Surviving are six children: Melvin L. Imes, Jr., of Port Royal, Gary L. Imes and his wife Shirley, of Mifflin, Donald G. Imes, of Mifflin, Beverly Swartz, of Port Royal, Brenda Stimeling and her husband Lyndon, of Richfield, Barbara Myers and her husband Charles, of Port Royal and she leaves behind 16 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. Four brothers and six sisters preceded her in death, making her the last of her generation. Mrs. Imes along with her late husband owned and operated their own dairy farm and in earlier life she was a seamstress having worked at local sewing factories, before she was employed in the housekeeping and laundry departments of Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin. Being a dedicated Christian woman, who was a devoted and active member of the Lighthouse Community Church, Mifflintown, she received much joy from serving and encouraging others through acts of kindness Helen relished the time she could spend sitting on her porches. She loved reading and had a gift of baking, sewing and tending to her flowers; however her greatest joy came from the time she spent entertaining her friends and family and the joy that she received from all of them. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, August 30, 2019 from the Lighthouse Community Church, Corner of Industrial Park Road and Cedar Springs Road, Mifflintown, with the Rev. Jeffrey A. Henry officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Nook. Viewing will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2019 at the Lighthouse Community Church, Mifflintown. For those that desire, memorial contributions in Mrs. Imes’ memory may be made to her church, Lighthouse Community Church, 1578 Cedar Springs Road, Mifflintown, PA 17059.
